You are so right about your observations of stores gone by with what we have now.

Personally, the only department store I wish to visit is Century 21 in Lower Manhattan. I haven’t been there since it reopened.

I loved that place! Near or on Fulton Street, right? I didn’t even know it reopened, same location? Lmk if you go, I’ll go with you and then Chinatown or Little Italy for food? (Does LIttle Italy seem smaller? Have you been lately? More Chinese and less Italian?)

so well told Debra and for sure you have go dancing hair! JCP based on my extensive shopping, yes upscale and 'fast fashion' and name a store you will not convince me they have better cotton tanks, crews, v-necks, turtlenecks made from 100 percent real cotton, no plastic or recycled material...an now that I gave this secret away my two other friends might tell me, Donna there's no more XS in the store (which they HAVE) and are hard to find. Ha. But the main reason I even step into JPC are the staff. They actually make you feel they are happy you are there. I love Danbury mall and it's vibe speaks to me for many reasons unrelated to stores but for sure its amazing to be wanted.

Thanks Donna! It was YOU who got me started on JCP, and I will be shopping there more oftrn for sure. And I don’t have to worry about XS, in any case, LOL! But I do like real fabrics over synthetic.

This is the book I think I mentioned to you:

To Dye For: How Toxic Fashion Is Making Us Sick--and How We Can Fight Back,

by a journalist. Illuminating on many fronts. (And no commission on this for me if you buy it!) I read a library copy.

Love your writing! This news about that store is a surprise and makes me want to visit. I’m intrigued. The last time I strolled through was to check for shoes to attend a wedding. You are spot on about the changes that have taken place. Yes, Macy’s seems to have lost its way. But you’re right, there’s plenty of help in the cosmetics department! I wonder why. Maybe those folks earn a higher wage?

Thanks Linda! I remember writing for you! Those were fun days.

I think the store is making strides to rebrand. It seems they may be aligned with Rare Beauty (Selena Gomez), but I haven’t made it to the cosmetics area yet. I will soon, but that usually results in a purchase that makes my credit card cry! LOL. And you’re right, an old friend who worked for Macy’s, as a buyer I think, said the cosmetic department worked on commission and made more $ than she did!
