Little moments and big birthdays
Take time to live in the moment. The small ones are as important as the big ones.
Dear readers,
I want to thank you all for reading my newsletter. I am always excited when I see how many of you have read and/or passed along my post.
I write to share information that (I hope) is useful and/or amusing. Life is always changing, and every day brings a new insight or challenge. I believe each one of us has a story, and this newsletter is about mine.
My lifestyle is quiet right now, so I don’t have loads of huge events to cover and report on, but this quiet time has let me see that life really is about the small moments. The schedule I used to have was packed: working full-time, commuting, raising my kids, cooking dinner, keeping up with the writing, working out, going to school– sometimes all in one day! My life was a blur. So many individual moments went unnoticed. Now, my days are just right. I exercise at Pure Barre, plan meals and cook, do some yoga, read, write, try to stay healthy, catch up with friends. A big treat is not setting the alarm clock. The biggest payback: I pay more attention.
Example: The other day I spotted a couple of my son’s old toy trucks still in the sandbox under the swing set. I know it is a bit dysfunctional not to have cleared all this old stuff out long ago (he’s getting close to 30!); I guess cleaning the sandbox just hasn’t been a priority.
But this time, I took the moment to stop and look. I wondered how old he was when he last played with those trucks. And I really had no idea. It made me sad to think how much I missed. How could I ever have known which day it was that turned out to be his last day playing with trucks in the sandbox?
His birthday is coming up, so maybe I’m getting sentimental.
It was a momentary experience that made me wish I had paid more attention to a lot of things. So now, in my quiet lifestyle, I am trying to live in the moment. Every moment, big or small. And these are the moments I write about.
On another topic, I saw that some readers have pledged to support my work (thank you!), so I will likely turn the “paid subscribers” tab on. I certainly appreciate your support!
Please leave your comments on my page. I like to read your words, too.
