A couple weeks ago, I went to Little Island in NYC. This is a most adorable public space located in Hudson River Park at West 13th Street. It’s not big in terms of space, but the way it rises up out of the Hudson on these spacey concrete pods more than makes up for its size. The two-acre park at Pier 55 opened in 2021 and utilizes the remains of surrounding damaged piers; it’s a truly unique destination for a pleasant day trip.
The architecture reminds me of Gaudi sculptures, and the landscape overflows with lush plantings growing up out of the pods. You’ll get great views of NYC and some exercise on easy paths designed for strolling.
Lots more info and historical context on the website.
Be sure to look for the sidewalk plaques just outside the park that tell the Titanic’s connection to this spot.
Entry is free and no reservations needed. Easiest access is by taking the High Line and exiting at 14th Street. (Avoids nearby street construction.) Open rain or shine, but with good weather ahead this week, maybe now’s the time to visit.

What an enriched environment. I used to sit near there 10 years ago with my friend Judy to watch the sunset. Thank you for sharing, Debbie.
