A quick post with some updates.
First, I finally caught Covid. Not that I was eager to do so; I tried very hard to avoid it..
…by not going to crowded places like Costco, etc., too often, and wearing a mask when I did.
No big concerts.
No subway.
No crowded restaurants..
Tried standing far from others in line, though this wasn’t difficult since I like quite a bit of “personal space” to begin with. I have been noticing people getting closer and closer, so clearly fewer people are actually taking this seriously anymore.
Careful at barre studio to avoid busier classes.
I had all the shots (5 in all).
What never happened was a fever. I know because I am in the habit (since the pandemic started) of taking temp every day. Of course, a friend just told me her doctor’s office doesn’t require this anymore because they deemed it was ineffective at detecting Covid. So much for that.
But alas, I caught it. Not sure how, maybe it’s in the air. Honestly, I think few people are even testing. It’s like “Don’t ask, don’t tell.” But instead, it’s “Don’t test, don’t know.” This will be even more prevalent as soon as free tests run out next month.
In any case, it seemed like a very bad head cold, headache, heart seemed to be pounding a bit hard one night, but that could have been from too much Nyquil. So I tested, primarily because I had been just up with my granddaughter, et al, for my birthday celebration.
I was actually surprised to see the test turn positive and repeated it to be sure.
Fortunately, it just lasted a few days, maybe thanks to the Paxlovid I took?
And, I did not pass it on, as far as I know, and all is well. Staying healthy is the plan.
Except.. one thing.. taste is not quite right. If a flavor is mild, like my moringa green tea, it’s lost on me. We’ll see how that goes. This is not good for cooking!
Secondly, happy birthday to my sweet cat, Sheba! She is 16. I have her on a renal care diet since she has early-stage kidney disease. It has not progressed over the last few years thanks to, I believe, prescription food I feed her: Purina Pro Plan Kidney Function Early Care, and Royal Canin Renal Support. Thanks, Amy, for great vet care!
Sheba was re-homed to me in 2016, and that story I’ll save for another time. (It has a bit of a karmic feel to it.) I feel blessed to have her (thank you, Claudine!).
And speaking of diets, fasting went out the window when I wasn’t feeling well. But I’m back on track, keeping my eating window at 7-8 hours, which is a bit large. But weight is holding steady. Not tasting things properly might be an advantage.
Till next time! Be well.

I got Covid on Xmas eve for the first time after dodging many bullets. I actually thought I might be immune. I had 5 shots also but it finally got me although it wasn’t too bad. I noticed that the worse I felt was when my temperature was over 99. From there, the fever went down and I felt better. Interesting sidebar. I had read that you need to stop statins when you take Paxlovid so I called my cardiologist about that. He said no Paxlovid which he considers an inferior drug and recommended I take 160 mg or Pepcid AC plus Tylenol. Now, the standard dose for Pepcid is 20 mg a day and I had never heard that it helped Covid. However, I did find two studies that said its anti-viral qualities did in fact help Covid....so I took the megadoses and it seemed to work. I can’t say that definitively but I had a mild case that only lasted about 3 days.....
